TEACHERS at Brine Leas have praised their students with more than 80 per cent achieving A* to C in both Maths and English at GCSE.

The headline for 5 A* to C, including English and Maths, is more than 73 per cent and more than 87 per cent achieved five or more GCSE's at A* to C.

Those achieving the EBacc (English Baccalaureate) weighed in at an impressive 40 per cent.

A* and A’s came in at a fabulous 27 per cent.

Beneath these headline figures it is also essential to pay tribute to a number of students who have got D's and E's but nevertheless have way surpassed their target grades.

Headteacher Andrew Cliffe said: "I am delighted and thrilled with this year's examination results as virtually all of our headline figures are, in fact, better than the last two years.

"It was with some trepidation that we waited for this year's GCSE examination results. Dire warnings have come from the Government and the exam boards about not expecting too much at all.

"Our students have done incredibly well and deserved their success. As ever the results for our young people are a result of team work with parents, staff and students working incredibly hard to achieve their very best.

"Most students have exceeded their target grades and the headlines this year are very good."

There are some real success stories and many former Year 11's will be joining the rich mixture of students in the sixth form to rekindle existing friendships and also to meet the many young people who are currently at other schools and have chosen the school.

Any student wishing to register for 2014, and who currently has not done so, needs to contact the school urgently as we have very few places left this year due to high demand. ‘
