Alsager School is celebrating some record-breaking GCSE results.

The class of 2014 have exceeded expectations and broken several school records. In English, 82 per cent of pupils gained grades A* to C, while the figure in maths was 77 per cent.

Other A* to C successes include biology (94 per cent), chemistry (92 per cent), physics (91 per cent) and resistant materials (100 per cent). In drama, RE, history and all the sciences, well over 40 per cent of all the grades were A* or A.A staggering 39 per cent of pupils achieved three or more A*/A grades across their subjects.

Across the board many pupils exceeded their targets and made way above ‘expected progress’ in their subjects.

Outstanding individual performers include Miriam May and Anna Weatherburn, who each achieved 10 A*s and two As, Jamie Thompson (nine A*s, three As and a B), Victoria Bancroft (nine A*s and three As), Charlotte James (nine A*s, two As and a B) and Max Maxfield (eight A*s and four As).

Alongside fantastic GCSE results, pupils were successful in a selection of courses, ranging from hairdressing to engineering. They are now ready for the world of work and further study and should be very proud of themselves.

Megan Taylor achieved her VTCT Level 1 Diploma in an introduction to the hair and beauty sector at South Cheshire College, Sade Coyne gained her Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Certificate in understanding enterprise and entrepreneurship at Reasheath College and Tom Brereton achieved his Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Diploma, also at Reaseheath College.

All have secured places at various colleges to further their studies. It is always a real pleasure to see so many tense and nervous faces turn into happy, smiling and relieved ones as the class of 2014 opened their results and celebrated with family, friends and teachers.

All the staff were celebrating too. In fact, drama teacher Miss Smith re-enacted a Grand Prix podium, spraying her drama students with champagne as they posed for the press!

Headteacher Richard Middlebrook said: “We are absolutely delighted with these superb results, which are the result of hard work from both pupils and staff, together with the support of parents and carers.

“What is most pleasing is the huge numbers of pupils who exceeded their targets and made massive progress during their time here at Alsager.

“For example, almost half the entire year group made above expected progress in maths. Astonishing!

“Our congratulations to the outstanding class of 2014, and we look forward to welcoming a record number of them into our fantastic sixth form, who celebrated great results last week too!”
