PERFORMING arts group The Young Actors is launching a new Saturday morning drama group for students aged four to 16 at the Crewe Lyceum Theatre on Saturday, September 13.

The performing arts group from Nantwich has offered classes to schools in the area for more than 10 years and is expanding to the Lyceum following demand from local parents for specialist drama tuition outside of school hours.

The Young Actors is led by Geoff Smith, head of drama at Malbank School and Edward Passmore, a professional actor who specialises in voice and movement. Recent Young Actors productions include performances at the Nantwich Food Festival and Nantwich Museum.

“We offer a completely different approach to teaching performing arts,” Geoff Smith said.

“The students are at the heart of everything we do as we help them develop a range of skills – from presenting to an audience through to directing and editing scripts.”

The Young Actors offers two inclusive drama groups, Little Actors for ages four to eight and Young Actors for ages nine to 16 plus. The group also offers internships and experience for A Level and university students pursuing teacher training or youth work qualifications.

Students who have attended The Young Actors have gone on to pass Trinity Guildhall examinations and audition for the National Youth Theatre and top drama schools around the country. The Young Actors is part of the Children’s University programme, a national organisation which gives children and families innovative learning activities and experiences outside normal school hours.
