LEIGHTON Hospital’s Urgent Care Centre is set to be open over weekends throughout the winter in an attempt to take extra care of the elderly in cold weather.

NHS South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been awarded more than £1million to support winter pressures such as increased hospital bed capacity and out-of-hours GP access.

The funding will provide patients with additional support, minimising A&E attendance and hospital admission by boosting weekend resources for GP out of hours and the Urgent Care Centre.

Dr Andrew Wilson, chair of NHS South Cheshire CCG, said: “We hope people will always think carefully about using NHS services and understand that A&E and ambulance services are for emergencies only.

“We are investing in out-of-hours primary care for South Cheshire so that people are able to seek help before their condition worsens or becomes life-threatening.”
