CHOIRS from schools in South Cheshire are to put on a special concert to raise money for the prevention treatment and cure of heart disease.

The Sing for your Heart event has been organised by the Crewe Male Voice Choir at the town’s Lyceum Theatre on Monday, November 24 and all profits will go to national charity Heart Research UK.

Choir conductor, Stephen Davies, has helped put the event together and says it was an opportunity to bring together the school choirs for a good cause.

“The concert came about because we like doing things for charity, it is great to get the schools involved, and it will hopefully raise the profile of Crewe Male Voice Choir and attract more members,” said the retired Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School deputy head teacher.

Among those taking part are choirs from Brine Leas School Choir, Nantwich; Malbank School and 6th Form College Chamber Choir, Nantwich; Shavington School Choir together with Sandbach High School’s Jazz Band.

All male singers from the schools and the audience will be invited to form a massed male voice choir for a rendition of Cwm Rhondda – the more singers coming forward from the audience will generate more sponsorship.

Each choir will do its own programme and then all performers will join together for a medley finale from Les Miserables.

Among those taking part in the concert is local soprano, Jane Johnson, and the Crewe Town Mayor and the chairman of main sponsors, Mornflake Oats, will also be attending.
