A MUD-LOVING conservationist from Nantwich raised her game to better than ‘bog’ standard, when she took on the Hellrunner endurance event at Delamere Forest.

Dr Vicky Nall, from Nantwich, tackled the Hellrunner with her fellow conservationist Katie Piercy, in aid of a wildlife project and the pair raised more than £500 for Cheshire Wildlife Trust.

Already keen runners and regular participants in other endurance races, Katie and Vicky decided they couldn’t miss the opportunity to raise money by taking on the aptly-named ‘Hellrunner’, as it passed many of the areas in Delamere Forest that are the current focus of Wildlife Trust projects.

The team came an impressive 706 and 707 out of almost 2,000 runners who took on the challenge.

Katie, who is Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s Delamere Mossland Officer, said: “I always say I like getting stuck into my work, but this took things to a whole new level.

“I have to admit that I was still keeping half an eye out for wildlife on the way around the course too, despite the chaos around me.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us on the day and pledged sponsorship for this crazy challenge.”

Cheshire Wildlife Trust have worked closely with the Hellrunner event team, to ensure that the race left no lasting damage to areas of the forest that are in the process of restoration to mossland.

Katie added: “Events like this are an unexpected way to get people interested in mossland habitats.”

“To most people they are a mystery, too wet to explore, slightly threatening and scary. The race allows people to have fun with these habitats.
