A NANTWICH road is set to be shut for up to 10 days so engineers can repair two broken manholes.

United Utilities is to take immediate action to remove two noisy manholes in a Nantwich neighbourhood that have caused regular disturbances to people who live nearby.

The sewers access points on the A530 Whitchurch Road, Aston, have been rattling loudly when cars have driven over them despite regular maintenance work from United Utilities.

The loose manholes have resulted in sleepless nights for many residents living nearby.

Tony Griffiths, United Utilities area wastewater network manager, has now announced the road will temporarily close so that work to remove them completely can be safely carried out.

“We always aim to be a good neighbour and we decided the best long term solution in this case was to remove the problem for good,” he said.

“There will be some disruption for a short time, because there is a lot of construction work to carry out.

“We need to completely dig out the manholes and chambers and then fill them back in and resurface the road.”

It has been discovered the manholes and the chambers below them are not needed, so United Utilities have put this plan in place to help residents live more peacefully and get rid of unecessary noise.

The A530 will need to be closed for up to 10 days from Monday, November 17 while engineers carry out the work but there will be a clearly signposted diversion.

There will be no impact on the sewers while this construction work is taking place and residents of the area will be able to flush their toilet and wash their dishes as usual.
