Rising Crewe Alexandra starlet Ryan Colclough is due to appear in court charged with assault by beating and obstructing or resisting a police officer.

The 19-year-old winger, who hasn’t played in a year due a number of injuries, was arrested following an incident in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday, November 23.

Colclough, of New Inn Lane, Trentham, was quizzed by officers about the incident who subsequently charged him with assault by beating and obstructing or resisting a police officer in the execution of his duty.

The talented teen is one of Crewe’s rising stars after being promoted from the academy to the first team in September 2012.

He made his professional debut on September 22, 2012, in a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient in Football League One, coming on as a substitute for Brendon Daniels.

He scored his first goal for the club in January 2013, in a 3-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth.

In August 2013, the talented winger scored a brace in a 2-1 win against Tranmere Rovers before a succession of groin and pelvic problems halted the teen’s development.

Colclough will appear before magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on December 10.

The Guardian contacted Crewe Alexandra but the club said they do not comment on ongoing investigations.
