QUEENS Park was full of festive fun on Sunday when the first ever ‘Fun Run and Snowman Stroll’ took place.

There were a 3km and 5km fun run along with a Snowman Stroll and fancy dress included Father Christmas, Christmas Trees, Reindeer and Snowmen.

The events were marshalled by enthusiastic volunteers who also wore fancy dress.

All participants received a certificate, festive novelty gift and mince pie and went into a prize draw to win a luxury hamper.

First across the line in the 5km run was Robert Douglas dressed as an elf, who downed tools in Santa’s Workshop for the morning, but still managed to hammer it to the finish.

Leanne Haythornthwaite, one of the organisers, said: “The event was so much fun and there was a really nice Christmas atmosphere to the whole occasion.

“This was helped by the fact that Santa and his Reindeer were here to cheer the runners along. Also accompanying Santa were a number of Snowmen who took a leisurely stroll around the park with parents and their children.

“We had elves, fairies and even a running Christmas tree.”

Runners were treated to a well deserved Mince Pie, donated by Morrisons and Asda.

The fun run was followed later in the afternoon by free arts and crafts in the Pickle Jar cafe and the fun filled day was finished off that evening by a lantern parade attended by the Mayor and sing-a-long carols in the pavilion.

Proceeds will go to ‘Friends of Queens Park’, so further events can be held in the park.

The event was supported by Cheshire East Council and Lions, along with UK Triathlon.
