A SELFLESS dad from Crewe has been crowned Signal 1 and 2’s Service Person of the Year 2014.

Leroy Rogerson, of Parkers Road, was presented with the prestigious award by radio DJs Andy and Louise Stones and Andy Cook at a recent ceremony at Crewe Hall.

The 34-year-old’s caring nature struck a chord with Cheshire and Staffordshire listeners, who voted for him to win.

Leroy was nominated for the award by his wife Noeleen Rogerson. She highlighted how he juggled his work as an inter-hospital liaison officer for the Royal University Hospital of Stoke with his role as paramedic for West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Leroy said: “I bridge the gap between hospitals and the ambulance service and, as well as being on call for 999 emergencies in a ambulance car, I rapidly work with nurses and doctors, treat, triage, divert and refer patients straight to A&E, ensuring the patient has the best experience possible whilst there.

“It is a completely innovative post and unique role that no other Trust has.”

Leroy impressed voters with his hard-working attitude. He goes into work at last minute’s notice, always works past his end of shift finish time and at times stays over voluntarily to care for patients at the hospital.

Leroy, who also worked as a retained fire-fighter for Cheshire Fire, also looks after his one-year-old daughter and three-year-old son on his days off.

Speaking about the recognition, Leroy said: “The award is very special to me as I always want to provide above and beyond care for my patients.

“It is a more than a job to me as I treat every patient as if they are members of my family and I feel very strongly about the patients I treat.

"Everyone started off in this world as a newborn baby who needs love, care, attention and respect; I feel we all need the same respect as we become adults but in different way.”
