BUSINESSES in Crewe have just a few more days to apply for funding to encourage their workers to use greener forms of transport and reduce carbon emissions.

Grants of up to £5,000 are up for grabs, which can be used to promote cycling, walking, using public transport and car sharing.

Businesses are urged to contact Cheshire East Council and make a bid before the cut-off date of January 27, 2015.

Cllr David Topping, Cheshire East’s Cabinet member for service commissioning, said: “These grants have been put to very good use by many of the Borough’s employers and it would be a pity if any of this money was left unclaimed.

“I urge anyone interested to make a bid and I can assure them that we will make the application process as simple and rapid as possible.”

Examples of eligible projects include installing cycle racks and shower facilities, improving footpath access and providing protective equipment or pedometers.

The Smarter Ways to Travel scheme, part of Crewe’s Local Sustainable Transport programme, is run by the council in partnership with the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce.
