A CREWE woman fought off a man off after he put her in a headlock and tried to sexually assault her.

Around 10.30pm on Sunday, January 25, the 37-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was approached by a man while walking along Edleston Road, Crewe.

Despite repeated attempts to move away he continued to follow the victim down Wistaston Road and onto Brook Street, heading towards Tesco.

After realising the Tesco store was closed, the attacker directed the victim up the steps towards Dunelm Mill, telling her there was another supermarket in that direction.

As the victim walked up the steps the man grabbed her from behind and put her in a headlock then began to pull down his trousers.

The victim managed to fight him off before escaping the scene, fleeing towards Edleston Road.

Detective Sergeant Jim Boulton said: "This is an extremely serious incident and I would like to appeal anyone with information in relation to the incident to contact Cheshire Police.”

The victim is described as ‘dark skinned, approximately 5ft 4inches tall and clean shaven′.
