HUNDREDS of residents joined forces to object proposals to build almost 300 houses in Willaston ‘before the village is destroyed’.

More than 200 people attended the public meeting at Willaston Primary School to discuss controversial developments, which would see hundreds of homes built on green space.

Willaston and Rope Ward Councillor, Cllr Brian Silvester, who recently campaigned vigorously against an 880-home development in Crewe, led the meeting and took questions from residents.

The UKIP councillor said: “I spoke to the residents and answered questions for over an hour. Local people are really angry.”

“Most people went away from the meeting pledging to write in to object.”

The first of the two applications was submitted by developers Wainhomes, which submitted plans to build 120 homes on land to the rear of Cheerbrook Road.

The second controversial application came from Stretton Willaston Ltd, which applied to build 175 houses on land between Park Road and the railway line.

Last month, Cllr Silvester said the village was 'under siege' from developers, claiming there were ‘many valid planning reasons for the refusal of this application’.

Following last night’s impressive turnout, the UKIP councillor praised the community for turning out in force to protest the two proposed housing developments in the village.

He said: “Over 200 houses have already been passed in the village in the last year and now a further 300 are in the pipeline. They are saying enough is enough. It is time to put a stop to it.

“They want to put an end to all this development before the village is destroyed.”

Cllr Silvester has urged the residents of Willaston to come together to fight the proposed developments.

He also praised Willaston School for agreeing to host the meeting.

He said: “Willaston School are to be congratulated on organising and hosting this public meeting. I am sure that if we mount a vigorous campaign these applications can be defeated.”

The deadline for objections for Cheerbrook Road development is noon on the 16/2/15. The deadline for objections for Park Road development is noon on the 26/2/15.
