CREWE Alexandra legend Dario Gradi MBE joined Crewe MP Edward Timpson in congratulating a heart valve disease charity in their continued efforts to raise awareness for the condition.

Dario, former Crewe Alexandra FC manager, and the MP for Crewe and Nantwich, Edward Timpson, visited Heart Valve Voice, a heart valve disease charity.

Members of the charity discussed their aim to raise the awareness and understanding of heart valve disease by delivering up to date evidence-based treatment guidance to ensure patients receive the right treatment at the right time.

Mr Timpson said: “Heart valve disease represents a significant challenge to the health of my constituents and the ageing nation.

“Many patients go undiagnosed until their symptoms are acute, often with fatal results.

“I congratulate Heart Valve Voice on their effort to raise awareness and to deliver guidance thereby ensuring patients receive timely treatments.”

Heart valve disease is an age-related illness, which affects approximately one million elderly people.

More than half of patients with untreated symptomatic severe heart valve disease die within two years.

The charity say many heart valve disease symptoms are wrongly attributed to natural age, meaning that people with heart valve disease are left undiagnosed and untreated.
