CHESHIRE police have urged parents and carers to reinforce ‘stranger danger’ messages to their children after a toddler became separated from her mum and later found with an unknown woman.

The incident happened at Monks Copenhall Primary School in Remer Street, Crewe, on Friday, March 13, at the end of the school day.

A three-year-old girl was waiting with her mum at the school when she managed to wander off unnoticed.

She was found shortly after speaking with an unknown woman outside the grounds of the school.

Cheshire Constabulary has confirmed they are working with the school to find out exactly what happened.

A police spokesman said: “Police are still in the process of determining the exact course of events which took place that afternoon and officers have spoken to both teachers and parents with a view to ascertaining what happened.

“The toddler involved in the incident wandered away from her mother whilst in the school grounds. The child was later located very close to the school and thankfully was not harmed or hurt in any way.”

The spokesman said they have the full support and cooperation with the school in ensuring the safety of its pupils is met.

Police have also asked that parents and carers reinforce ‘stranger danger’ messages to their children and ensure they are always supervised at school drop-off and pickup times.

The police spokesman said: “With all suspicious incidents such as this which are as yet unexplained, we as police would take this opportunity to remind parents and carers to reiterate ‘stranger danger’ messages to their children and ensure that children are always supervised at school drop off/pickup times.”

The Guardian has approached Monks Copenhall Primary School for comment but have yet to receive a reply.

If anyone has any information regarding people acting suspicious around schools they are urged to contact police on 101.

Alternatively information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
