BREAKFAST giant Mornflake has netted a new record as the oldest sponsor of Crewe Alexandra Football Club.

The firm is celebrating 11 years as top sponsor of the side based near its mill and headquarters on Gresty Road.

Club secretary Alison Bowler paid tribute to the company saying: “Mornflake’s shirt sponsorship is now the longest in club history and we can’t be more grateful for the firm’s continued support.

“Throughout our highs and lows we have always been able to rely on Mornflake. It is a great ambassador for the area, flying the flag high for Crewe as it exports products to countries across the world.

“Fans know it as a top local employer and great friend to the club while players wear the company logo on their shirts with pride.”

A new-style shirt, bearing the Mornflake logo, is currently being designed and will be unveiled at pre-season friendlies in July.

Marketing spokesman Richard Jones said: “We have hundreds of employees who are massive fans of Crewe Alexandra and show their support at matches home and away.

“Like Mornflake, the club is part of Crewe’s heritage and we are all right behind the team as they fight to stay in League One.

“No matter what the result, local people can be proud of a great side on their doorstep.”

Alex manager Steve Davis, team captain Matt Tootle and striker Lauri Dalla Valle joined Mornflake staff for breakfast to celebrate the shirt sponsorship.

They enjoyed gluten free porridge in the kitchen where new products are developed.
