A DEDICATED paramedic from Crewe has been awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award for his continued commitment to working beyond the call of duty.

Leroy Rogerson, 34, is an inter-hospital liaison officer (IHLO) for the Royal University Hospital of Stoke as well as a paramedic for West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Leroy was presented with the award by Dr Anthony Marsh, chief executive of West Midlands Ambulance Service, at the national motorcycle museum conference centre in Solihull, West Midlands.

After receiving the accolade, Leroy said: “It felt great to be recognised as all staff in the NHS work extremely hard due to increased pressures.

“I would like to say thank you for all their hard work and I feel part of a family because we train together, do so many hours as good as live together and most of all proud to care.

“That’s the acronym of Royal Stoke University Hospital despite the increased pressures making one unstoppable team.

“This is what gives me that drive to do what it takes no matter what to work above and beyond the call of duty for the people in need of care.”

A Fully qualified paramedic, Leroy is currently part of the Senior Nursing Team.

His current role as an inter-hospital liaison officer (IHLO) is one that no other Trust has.

The role of the IHLO is to co-ordinate ambulance crews, signposts, assess, take blood, investigate and treat patients on arrival to the department and refer and direct to emergency portals.

He must also liaise with Strategic Health Authority and neighbouring trusts ensuring ambulance crews clear within the allotted time according to national guidelines.

Leroy also served 12 years as a reserve fire-fighter for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Last October, Leroy was crowned Signal 1 and 2’s Service Person of the Year 2014.

He was presented with the prestigious award by radio DJs Andy and Louise Stones and Andy Cook at a recent ceremony at Crewe Hall.

Leroy also looks after his one-year-old daughter and three-year-old son on his days off, impressed voters with his hard-working and caring attitude.
