CREWE has received a major jobs boost with the opening of a McDonald’s restaurant and a Hungry Horse pub.

The restaurant on Dunwoody Way has created up to 120 local jobs, and was due to be opened yesterday, Wednesday, by Cheshire East Mayor Cllr Wesley Fitzgerald.

The mayor cut a ribbon, and was joined at the celebrations by players from Crewe Alexandra FC.

Seven-year-old Mischa Leake was chosen to help open the Hungry Horse pub, The Four Eagles, also on Dunwoody Way, which has created about 50 jobs.

The pub opened on Monday, and was named by residents in tribute to the four eagle statues which were originally on the bridge near where the new pub has been built.

In February Hungry Horse launched an appeal to find a local hero to help open the pub, and Mischa was chosen to cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Mischa has spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, which affects her legs and feet, making it difficult for her walk, especially for long distances.

Her parents, Sarah and Carl, set up Mischa’s Wish Fund two years ago to raise the £40,000 needed to travel to America to undergo pioneering surgery, and the fund stands at £27,000.

Steph Briggs, manager of the Four Eagles, said: “We could not have found a better person to help open the pub.

“Mischa is a very brave little girl, and we plan to host fundraising events at the pub in the future to help her and her family reach their total.”

About 50 full and part-time local jobs have been created by the Four Eagles, many being filled following a pre-employment training programme run with the local Job Centre Plus.
