ADVENTUROUS students from South Cheshire College set foot on new ground during a breathtaking trip to the land of ice and fire.

The South Cheshire College A-Level geography, geology and chemistry group spent four days in Iceland learning about the volcanically active Nordic island.

The group of 22 students took a closer look at volcanoes, glaciers and mountains which make up a large part of the country, located on the fringes of the Arctic Circle.

They also spent a morning at the famous Blue Lagoon, a natural outdoor spa that is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland.

Geography lecturer, Helena Curtis, said: “This was a fascinating trip from start to finish which benefited both Geography, Geology and Chemistry students.

“They acquired so much knowledge about volcanoes, glaciers and other landmarks in such a short space of time that will be of so much value to them back in the classroom.”

During the trip, students visited historical sites and natural phenomena including the Lake Pingvallavatn and Gullfoss, the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skogar museum, one of the best folklore museums in the country.

Helena added: “Students thoroughly enjoyed the visit which gave them an eye-opening experience they will never forget.”
