A CREWE scout group is in a race against time to raise the money to build a new headquarters.

The 35th South West Cheshire Scout group, has been situated in 'The Hut' in Bluebell Wood, Wistaston, for more than 40 years.

However, its crumbling interior and exterior, has forced the group to speed up bold plans to rebuild the new hut at a cost of almost £200,000.

Now with more than £110,000 raised through a combination of hard work and endeavour, the group is currently hoping it can boost that total by up to £25,000, from the Aviva Broker Community Fund.

In the group's application, the scout leaders warn that the lifespan of the current building is very short.

They explain: " The foundations have failed and its condition is rapidly deteriorating and the lifespan of the existing building is very limited, and unless we can begin the replacement within the next 12 months we will have to cease using it.

"The knock on effect of the hut closure could result in a total closure of the group and the loss of scouting for some 120 young people."

The group, which provides indoor and outdoor activities for young people, aged 6 to 14, including kids with disabilities and special needs.

The new building, which already has planning consent, would help provide the scouts with extra storage space for camping equipment.

However, to put the group in with a chance of winning the money, members of the public will need to become involved and use their votes to help get the scout group some of the additional money it needs.
