A CREWE dentist came to the rescue of a cat that had a suffered a severe jaw fracture.

Harvey the cat was brought to Leonard Brothers Veterinary Centre after suffering a fractured jaw.

In their hour of need the vets turned to Richard Willis, from The Old Surgery Dental Practice in Crewe.

A spokesman for Leonard Brothers Veterinary Centre said: “Harvey had suffered a very nasty fracture to his lower jaw in such a way that reconstruction was not possible.

“After taking advice from a veterinary dental specialist, it was necessary to use acrylic to stick Harvey's upper and lower canine teeth together for six weeks.

“When LBVC approached The Old Surgery Dental Practice to see if they could help us source the acrylic to help our injured patient, they without hesitation, offered to get Richard to come in to perform the procedure for us for free.”

Mr Willis, from Nantwich, was assisted by dental nurse Rebecca Copeland, alongside vet Ingrid Segboer.

“It’s a first for me, but it was incredibly interesting,” Mr Willis, said. “I’m quite fascinated to see how the cat heals up.

“The procedure itself was actually quite straightforward. Obviously we were working on something a tad smaller than we’re used to. It couldn’t argue with me though, which is quite useful.

“I’m just happy to help if I can.”

Harvey is now recovering back home.
