THE daughter of a former cancer patient from Crewe has vowed to taken on at least six running challenges in 2015 for charity.

Ellie Hughes, 21, is raising money for St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice, which gave her mum Karen complementary therapy after recovering from breast cancer in 2010.

St Luke’s provided her with hypnotherapy, support and free massages which helped with Karen’s health and well-being.

Ellie wants to fundraise as a way of thanking the wonderful staff at the hospice for all the care and support they gave to her mum.

Ellie said: “I think St Luke’s is an amazing charity and the support they offer is second to none, without the hospice being there I know my mum wouldn’t have recovered from her psychological problems as fast or as well as she did do.

“It’s great having the support like this on offer for patients going through the hardest times of their lives.”

Ellie has already completed the Great Manchester 10K earlier this month and has already taken part in the 8K Devil Mud Run in Cheltenham and 10K X Runner Muddy Obstacle Race in April.

She will take on the 10K Suffering Race in June, 10K Delamere Commando Trail on the July 12, and the 19K North West Tough Mudder on September 12.

In preparation for her challenges Ellie trains by going to the gym, swimming and runs a 5K route around 2-3 times a week.

Mark Porter, Corporate and Community Fundraiser, St Luke’s Hospice, said: “Ellie is a marvellous young lady who has raised a fantastic amount so far for our hospice.

"The funds and awareness raised from Ellie’s challenge will help towards patient care within our community. On behalf of everyone here at St Luke’s we’d like to say good luck and thank you.”
