ARGOS has opened the first of its Sainsbury’s digital stores in Nantwich.

The Sainsbury’s supermarket on Middlewich Road held a ribbon cutting to welcome the new store on Wednesday, May 5. An Argos store also opened in Sainsbury’s in North Cheam, Surrey, on the same day.

This follows the announcement in January about the retailers teaming up to open 10 new Argos digital stores in Sainsbury’s supermarkets by the summer.

Ian Sutton, manager of Sainsbury’s in Nantwich, said: “Argos has a great, complementary product offer and provides the convenience that our customers are looking for.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the Argos team into store and working together to serve customers.”

The smaller, new format Argos digital stores offer 20,000 products available for pick up within a few hours.

The new stores are equipped with tablets, designed to mirror the online shopping experience.

Around half of Argos’ total sales now start online, with around 90 per cent of customers visiting one of 755 stores to pick up their goods.

The new stores will be around 1,000 square feet with other stores opening over the summer ranging in size up to 5,000 square feet.

The ten locations for the new Argos stores are Nantwich, North Cheam, West Hove, Crayford, Calcot, Bognor Regis, Durham, Rustington, Drumchapel and Keighley.

Paul Willott, Argos Store Manager in Nantwich, said: “Argos hasn’t had a store in this specific area before and it’s great that we can now bring our version of our very latest modern stores to customers conveniently inside their local Sainsbury’s supermarket.

“We are delighted to welcome new colleagues to the business and have received a very warm welcome from the Sainsbury’s team as we work together to make sure customers have the best experience of this very new partnership.”
