A YOUNG beauty from Crewe is vying to be named Miss Cheshire 2015 after making it through to the final.

Leonie-Jade Burns, 21, was selected to go through to the final rounds of the Cheshire 2015 heat, which is part of the Miss England competition.

The winner will be crowned on Sunday, June 7, at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Chester.

“I would cherish the opportunity to give back to the community as a role model for Cheshire,” Leonie-Jade told the Guardian.

“This role would be a great chance for me to utilise my public relations abilities to help empower other young women.

“I would like to help break the stigma associated with the competition by demonstrating that I am so much more than what you see on the outside.”

The Manchester Metropolitan University drama and sport student counts football and boxing among her hobbies.

And Leonie-Jade says she wants use the role to inspire the new generation of liberal feminists.

She explained: “We are a changing society and old fashioned masculine feminine gender roles are being deconstructed, with increased acceptance of diversity.

“Winning the competition would enable me to demonstrate that being Miss Cheshire is a chance to represent the strong independent young women of my generation who aren’t afraid to express their selves and celebrate their being regardless of the opinions of others.”

Leonie-Jade is currently raising funds for the Variety Children’s Charity, which supports young children with learning difficulties, sickness and disabilities.

This is something that is close to her heart, having previously volunteered at a day centre supporting people with disabilities and learning difficulties.

She said: “I passionately believe that everybody deserves an equal chance in life and instilling confidence and self-esteem in young people is a great start in helping them to achieve their full potential."

She added: “Beauty is only a very small part of the competition.

“The competition isn’t about being a girly-girl, it’s more about being female representative for Cheshire.”

Voting lines are now open and will close at midday on Sunday, June 7. To vote for Leonie-Jade text MISSCHESHIRE28 to 63333.
