PRIMARY school pupils were in perfect harmony when they produced their new railway song at South Cheshire College.

The St Mary’s Catholic Primary School choir spent an afternoon in the college’s centre stage theatre performing the ‘Ghost Train’ track which was recorded and later edited by music technology students.

Song lyrics focus on the demise of the railway engine industry in Crewe and the project has helped pupils relate to Crewe’s urban landscape and industrial history.

Once the CDs are available, school pupils are hoping to officially launch the song at the Railway Heritage Centre in the town.

They are also aiming to create a fact pack for the song showing their thoughts behind it and which highlights how Crewe’s present-day urban landscape is shaped by its railway-industry past.

Teacher Matthew Plant composed the catchy tune and leads the school choir at St Mary’s.

The choir is a double award-winning ensemble and has appeared in the Cheshire East Schools music competition three times.

Matthew said: “We are pleased that this project gave us the opportunity to build on our excellent relationship with South Cheshire College.

“The partnership working and fantastic support we have received from staff and students at the College has helped to bring this song recording to fruition.”
