A TODDLER who died after being hit by a car in Nottingham was from Crewe, police have confirmed.

Evelyn Maria Celgy, 2, was rushed to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre after the accident outside the city's Capital FM Arena.

The toddler was with her family, from Crewe, who were attending the Sehion UK Catholic bible convention on Saturday when the accident took place just after 8am.

A statement from the family said: "Sadly our dearest daughter passed away at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, on Saturday at 7pm.

"Evelyn was involved in a tragic road traffic collision earlier that same day.

"We would like to pass our sincere thanks to Nottinghamshire Police, the paramedics, accident and emergency staff, and staff on the intensive care unit at the hospital for all their compassion, sympathy, support and care provided."

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the crash to contact them on 101.
