A NANTWICH pupil has raised more than £2,000 for the Fire Fighters charity.

Cameron Thomson, 12, a pupil at Brine Leas School, took part in the Great North Swim which saw him swim half a mile across Lake Windermere in the Lake District.

Cameron had gone to visit his grandmother, Linda Alcock, who suffers from chiari malformation, a rare brain condition, during her rehabilitation at Jubilee House in Penrith when he was inspired to raise money for the charity as a thank you to them.

Cameron said: “I went to visit my Grandma at Jubilee House. It was such a special place that I wanted to do something to help. My Granddad Bill is a retired firefighter and we all know how lucky they are to have the support of the charity.”

Cameron, who is a swimmer for the Nantwich Seals, decided to enter the Great North Swim as his fundraising event and has so far raised £2,466.

He added: “The biggest challenge was that Lake Windermere was not as nice as a warm pool!”

Cameron did not face the challenge alone. His dad, David took the plunge with him, as children had to be accompanied by an adult.

Linda said: “I am very proud of what Cameron and his dad achieved to help me give something back to the wonderful charity that has done so much for me. I’d also like to thank Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service for their fantastic support.”
