REASEHEATH College scooped a triple gold at the Nantwich International Cheese Show.

The Nantwich-based college’s dairy technologist students won gold awards in the ‘Specialist Cheesemakers’ section and in the competitive ‘Student Cheesemaker class’ as well as a silver, and two commended awards in the cheddar cheese class.

The students are studying for a foundation degree in dairy technology, as part of the college’s Eden programme, which see’s them spend their time between training in the colleges dairy processing halls and gaining valuable experience in the workplace.

The Eden programme is and education initiative that is supported by leading dairy companies who recognise the importance of investing in talented employees.

The cheese show this year attracted record-breaking entry numbers and the college student’s found themselves up against world class competition.

Debbie Heritage-Brill, course manger at Reaseheath, said: “We were delighted at the success of our students, particularly against such strong competition from within the industry.”

As well as competing, the Eden students demonstrated the inner workings of cheese making to families at the show. Three lucky students were also given the opportunity to support celebrity chefs at the show such as James Martin, Will Holland, Jonathan Harrison, Sean Wilson and Peter Sidwell.

Commis chefs Elysha Emberson, Kieran McLean and Matt Salt had to prepare ingredients and equipment for the chefs in front of a large audience.

Elysha said: “It was very interesting working with the chefs and being part of the action. It was a really good experience and a great thing to put on your CV.”

The Nantwich International Cheese Show has been held every July at Dorfold Park, Nantwich, since 1897.
