THE Post Office will open a newly modernised main branch at Wells Green Post Office in Rope Lane, Crewe in September.

The service, which will launch at 1pm on Friday, September 11, will be provided from four counter positions, including two new style open-plan counters, one secure fortress position and a combi-counter, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the retail till.

The post office is situated in the Spar convenience store.

Caroline Pritchard, area manager, said: "We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

"We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.

"This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.

"The investment marks a commitment to our no more branch closure programme."

Wells Green Post Office will have to close at 5.30pm on Wednesday, August 26, for the refurbishment to take place. During this short period of closure Post Office services may be accessed from any convenient Post Office branch, including: Readesdale Avenue Post Office, The Late Shop, Readesdale Avenue, Crewe, CW2 8QP and Crewe Town Post Office, 13 Victoria Centre, Crewe, CW1 2PU.

The branch itself will open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, with selected Post Office products and services available from the retail counter during shop opening hours, which are 7am to 11pm seven days a week.

The opening hours which will increase by an extra 65 hours and 30 minutes of Post Office service a week will offer far more choice of times for customers to visit.
