A STUDENT pastry chef from Crewe has been crowned as a world champion rhythmic gymnast at the Special Olympic Games.

Felicity Martin, 19, studies Level 3 professional patisserie and confectionery course at South Cheshire College, Crewe, after completing Level 1 and 2 courses in professional cookery.

Also a world class gymnast, Felicity showed off her skills on a global platform and went head-to-head with top performers with intellectual disabilities from around the world at the California event.

Felicity was a key member of the Cheshire Academy squad, which was crowned team world champions.

She competed in the highest Level 3 rope routine competition and as a result her gold medal performance made her world champion in this top category.

The Crewe-based Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sport and Arts team collected 14 gold, seven silver and four bronze medals at the event.

Felicity said: “Los Angeles was a fantastic experience and it was great to come back with the gold and silver medals and be crowned as world champion in the rope routine.

“I love rhythmic gymnastics and was so lucky to have this opportunity thanks to the Cheshire Academy.”
