A GROUP of residents from Elm House, the CLS-run care home in Nantwich, were treated to an exciting tour of a wildlife-filled marina aboard the Wheelyboat.

The boat that has been specially built to take wheelchair users on scenic boat tours and comprises an in-built wheelchair, a hand-rail, and walking frame access points.

Taking to the waters were Dorothy Hayes, Brenda Worthington, and Betty Rogers along with Elm House carers Sheila Buckley and Mandy Robinson, pictured.

The Wheelyboat’s operators gave their passengers a thoroughly professional tour of the marina, pointing out areas of local interest, and helping to identify the abundance of wildlife that could be seen from the boat, including koots, moorhens, a heron, and countless jumping fish.

The residents were kept on the edge of their seats by the guide’s in-depth knowledge of the area and the marina’s inhabitants.

Betty said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my day. I would do it again in a flash; it was something different, and it was lovely to be out on the water in the sunshine.”

Elm House Home Manager, Steve Maddock, added: “Schemes like the Wheelyboat are so important. Without them, certain residents would really struggle to get involved with days out that are more travel based, such as sight-seeing and tours, which are a crucial part of life at Elm House.”
