WIDNES Vikings teamed up with children as they explored their heritage.

They met new year seven pupils at SS Peter and Paul Catholic College as part of a summer school.

The two week programme gave 45 students the chance to learn about the town’s history with a host of workshops, trips and activities.

They visited the home of Widnes Vikings, met players and had a tour of the ground.

They took part in a quiz in the museum and practiced a few passes on the pitch.

Pupils also met players from Liverpool Ladies and visited Widnes Cricket Club and Catalyst Museum.

The trips were designed to boost numeracy and literacy skills and develop children’s confidence.

Widnes Vikings Oliver Ashall and Brad Walker came into the school at the end of the sessions to see all their work.

Students presented the players with healthy eating menus and designs they had created for a mascot and away kit.

Head of year Mike Gough said: “It’s really impressive to see the hard work that has gone into this summer school project from the students.

“It is a fantastic beginning to their college career with us.”
