FAT-FIGHTERS from Nantwich have donated their oversized bras to women in Africa after shedding almost 50 stone this summer.

After working hard to fighting the flab over the summer months, slimmers from Slimming World groups in Nantwich realised their old underwear no longer fit them.

One of the women suggested donating the underwear to Smalls for All, a charity that collects and distributes underwear to women and children in Africa who need it most.

Slimming World consultant, Jenny Bond, said: “My super Slimming World groups have lost 48 stone since the start of summer.

“And as a result have seen a lot of changes in their health and body shape.

“One of my members, Carol Isaacs, had a fantastic idea to donate the bras we've shrunk out of to a charity called Smalls for All.

“They collect new pants and new and used bras and send them to women in Africa who can't afford them.”

So far Jenny and her fat fighters have collected more than 80 bras, but are hoping to get many more to donate to the charity.

Smalls for All was launched in 2009 by Maria Macnamara, after she read an article about the problems women and children in Zimbabwe face through having no underwear.

Maria discovered that many women and children in Africa can’t afford underwear or have only one pair of pants.

She also realised that very often they don’t have proper sanitary wear, causing many teenage girls miss out on schooling when they are forced to stay at home every month.

The lack of underwear has become a major social problem, and those without underwear are often the victims of sexual abuse.

Smalls for All became a registered charity in 2010, and that year provided more than 10,000 items of underwear to women and children in Zimbabwe and Kenya.

If you'd like to donate underwear, send your smalls to: Smalls For All, 108 Buchanan Crescent, Eliburn, Livingston, EH54 7EF.
