ITALIAN students gained a fascinating insight into studying in the UK after spending a week at South Cheshire College.

The group from Lake Garda, in northern Italy, learnt about all aspects of the Crewe college during the language and cultural exchange programme.

For many students, it was the first time they had visited England and it was a great opportunity for them to practice their English language skills and find out about how a UK college operates.

Stelios Yalarakis, international and external funding manager at South Cheshire College, said: “Our Italian visitors have seen different areas of the college during the week which was a real eye-opener for them.

“They were extremely impressed with the college and the amazing facilities we have here and we look forward to welcoming the group again in the future.”

During their stay, South Cheshire College also worked with the group to develop an Erasmus+ project focusing on environmental issues and water conservation.

Erasmus+ is an EU programme which aims to boost skills and employability and tackle skills gaps across Europe.

Students were also able to enjoy some of Britain’s history and culture during day trips to cities in the north west including Chester, Liverpool and Manchester.

South Cheshire College has forged strong links with educational institutions across the globe through its Homestay programme.

Visitors from Greece, Italy, Spain, China, Germany and Thailand have all visited the College in the last year to sample courses and experience British culture through the college’s Homestay programme.

New groups of Chinese and Thai visitors will be coming to South Cheshire College again later this month to complete international study programmes.

Local families have housed the majority of students during each of the visits through the Homestay programme.

Students could stay with families for as little as one week or as long as two years.

Families must provide a spare bedroom and live within walking distance of, or have easy access to, the college.
