A STUDENT from Crewe is flying the flag for a national charity that was founded as a legacy to Princess Diana.

Lydia Greatrix is anti-bullying ambassador for the ‘Diana Award’ charity, which recognises the positive difference young people make to their community.

The Diana Award has recognised more than 44,000 young people across the UK who have made a positive difference to their communities since it was founded in 1999.

Young people receive Diana awards for being active campaigners, anti-bullying champions, champion fundraisers, champion volunteers and courageous citizens.

Lydia, of Hinstock near Market Drayton, received a Diana Award when she was at Grove School, Market Drayton, and has attended numerous events up and down the country representing the organisation.

The 16-year-old said: “I love being involved with the Diana Award and tackling bullying is a topic that I’m very passionate about.

“I’m pleased to have the opportunity to work across the country to campaign against bullying which I hope will benefit other young people both now and in the future.”

Lydia is in her first year at South Cheshire College studying A-Levels in Business, Economics, Maths and French.

She is keen to become a student ambassador and a member of the college’s Student Council, which meets regularly to discuss questions and subjects raised by students.

Earlier this month, Lydia took part in a Diana Award workshop to promote the work of anti-bullying ambassadors at the Hammersmith Academy, London, with Prince William making a guest appearance.

The Duke of Cambridge has thrown his support behind the Diana Award’s fight against bullying.

Other celebrities also attended the showcase event including X-Factor pop star mentor Sinitta and vocal coach Carrie Grant.

Lydia has also appeared live on CBBC Newsround this month to talk about the issue of bullying on buses.

Lydia said: “The Hammersmith Academy event was an incredible experience and I had the opportunity to chat to the Duke of Cambridge about what I do which was fantastic.

“It was also great to appear live on Newsround to talk about bullying issues which was another unforgettable experience.”
