CREWE received a blast from the past as the Wheels of War Show invaded the town.

Crewe and District Military Vehicle Club (CDMVC) took over Crewe Heritage Centre on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27.

Due to the success of last year’s event, the club decided to go bigger and better and run the event over two days with the added bonus of a 1940’s Dance on Saturday evening.

The dance replicated a 1940’s wartime atmosphere as guests donned vintage clothing to complete the theme.

Entertainment was provided thanks to the VCO Big Band, a 22-piece orchestra who emulates traditional big bands.

Phillip Podmore, one of the Founders of CDMVC, said: “Since the first Wheels of War Show in 2009, thanks to the volunteers and vehicle enthusiasts, the event has attracted more and more people each year.”

The weekend saw the Crewe Heritage Centre filled with more than 50 vintage, classic military vehicles, WWII period model displays and dioramas.

This was in addition to mini working steam engines, rail carriages and working shunt engines.

There was also trade and memorabilia stands and even a WWI soldier fresh from the trenches giving an insight into the hardships of being a soldier in 1915.

The weekend was held to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Cllr Pam Minshall, chairman of community and environment at Crewe Town Council, added: “It is a fantastic event to have in Crewe and it is great to see it grow each year.”
