RESIDENTS are invited to a free diabetes roadshow in Crewe.

Diabetes UK has partnered up with Tesco to deliver a roadshow tour across the country that aims to reach more than 27,000 people with potentially life-changing information over two years.

There are 8,069 people living with Type 2 diabetes in South Cheshire with a further estimated 1,013 people living with undiagnosed diabetes.

One of the ‘Know Your Risk’ roadshow’s last stops this year is in Crewe on October 15 and 16.

Stephen Ryan, Diabetes UK regional manager in the north of England, said: “Four out of five of us can make healthy lifestyle changes that will delay or stop us getting Type 2 diabetes, such as eating a healthy diet, taking regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight.

"That’s why we want people in Crewe come aboard and find out their risk of Type 2 diabetes so we support them in making the right choices to improve their health.

“Because once you know your risk, you can do something about it.

“For many people, the Know Your Risk roadshow is the first step to turning their health around and delaying or preventing this serious condition.”

In the UK, in the UK there are 11.5 million people are at increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes due to their waist circumference or being overweight.

An estimated 3 million people are already diagnosed with the condition.

Type 2 diabetes is serious and can lead to devastating complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness or amputation.

However, if managed properly, people with Type 2 diabetes can live long, healthy lives.

“There’s nothing scary about our roadshow and no blood tests,” Stephen added.

“Our friendly volunteers and qualified dietitians in Crewe will take you through a series of questions and measurements to tell you how likely you are to develop Type 2 diabetes over the next ten years.

“Finding out your risk doesn’t take long, but could be an important first step on the path to a healthier life.”

Anyone who can’t attend the roadshow in Crewe can find out their risk of Type 2 diabetes online at diabetes.org.uk/knowyourrisk
