CHESHIRE Police are urging people act responsibly this Bonfire Night.

Officers will be patrolling the streets of Crewe during the bonfire period, which runs from Monday, October 26 until Monday, November 9.

Anyone in possession of fireworks deemed to be acting in an anti-social manner will have their fireworks confiscated.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: “Our officers will be out over the Bonfire period and will provide a visible presence on the streets dealing with incidents of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage.

“We want people to go out and enjoy themselves, along with their family and friends, without having to worry about crime or anti-social behaviour.

“We will not tolerate anyone acting in an anti-social manner, and anyone found to be causing problems for local residents will be dealt with robustly.”

Assistant Chief Constable Roberts said the force received more than 1,400 calls from members of the public in 2014, of which 189 related to anti-social behaviour.

Anthony Jones, from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We want everyone to enjoy the bonfire period by attending organised displays and there are plenty available for people to go to.

“Sadly a lot of our time is taken up dealing with deliberate fires at this time of year and we work closely with our partners to try and reduce these each year.”
