A CREWE councillor took a trip through Willaston for her latest 'Ward Walk'.

Sarah Pochin, Cheshire East Councillor for the Willaston and Rope ward, joined PCSO Nick Jarvis, Keith Ward, CEC Communities Officer and members of the Willaston Parish Council for the walk.

The group spent the afternoon walking through Willaston, picking up on areas needing improvement for the Willaston Community.

Councillor Pochin said: "The ward walk is an excellent way of us all getting together informally to meet with residents and hear their views on daily life in Willaston.

“It was well attended and that gets us noticed as we are walking the ward. Residents come out to speak to us about anything that may be of concern to them.

“I think it sends out a strong message to the community that we are working as a team on their behalf to get things done.”

Outcomes of the walk included Willaston Parish Council adopting the anti-dog fouling scheme used in other areas.

The initititive sees the Community Warden spray-paint semi-permanent signs to remind residents to clean up after their dogs.

Another concern raised by residents was congestion along Wistaston Road.

Cllr Pochin said: "The new road surface and traffic calming measures together with the new road markings clearly indicating the 20 mph restriction will be having a positive effect and the buses are now flowing freely through the village thanks to some new restricted parking areas.”

Cllr Pochin vowed to try to get some of the pavements in Wistaston Road resurfaced where they are particularly worn away, and repainting and renewing the road signs where they have faded such as the junction with Wybunbury Road and Green Lane.

Cllr Pochin said: "Cheshire East Highways Team do a fantastic job for all the residents of Cheshire East.

“Willaston is getting lots of attention at the moment with Wistaston Road just having been resurfaced and with Coppice Road planned to get some TLC shortly.

“There is always more to be done however and I know the team at Highways will do their best for us.”
