STUDENTS from a Crewe college put their skills to the test during an action-packed residential in Lake District.

South Cheshire College graphic design and photography students spent four days based in Wasdale at the heart of the Lakes, piecing together work for their course portfolios.

They were given various tasks to complete throughout the residential which were relevant to their courses.

Graphic design students focused on a ‘Typography of Cumbria’ project where they captured images of different typefaces to transform into eye-catching posters.

Photography students experimented with a series of camera techniques to develop skills and create images in a challenging environment.

Gary Sandilands, photography lecturer at South Cheshire College, said: “The residential provided an amazing opportunity for students to take the photographic and design skills they have learnt in the classroom to a new level.

“During the trip, they were able to expand their skills by capturing photos of, and examining, stunning and challenging terrain which was extremely rewarding for them.”

Areas that the group visited in the picturesque Lake District included Whitehaven and the beautiful Lake Windermere.

The residential has become an annual event in the student calendar and challenges students to put their creative skills to the test outside the classroom environment.

It also encourages them to work individually and in teams on a variety of projects including taking turns to cook for each other at their youth hostel base every day.
