A COLOURFUL cook book aimed at helping young adults leaving care eat on a budget has got the seal of approval from the founder of Reggae Reggae Sauce founder Levi Roots.

The Easy Pleasy Cookbook includes a pizza recipe by the food entrepreneur, who found fame after appearing on Dragons' Den.

The book was produced by the Cheshire East Care Leavers Group, which is run by The Children’s Society.

Care leaver Sarah Cotton, 22, from Nantwich, who was in foster care between the ages of 12 and 18, said: “We wanted to teach others about how to cook simple meals.

“Some of us didn't have those skills when we moved into independence and it can also be really difficult to budget and find the money to eat healthily.”

The group marked National Care Leavers Week, which ran until October 28, by giving copies of the book to fellow care leavers and children in care.

The Children’s Society, which supports vulnerable children in England and Wales, says young adults face a difficult transition to life outside care, and often find it difficult to secure employment.

Levi said: “When I heard about the cookbook and the challenges facing young people leaving care I jumped at the chance to get involved.

“I hope my recipe and the others in the book show that you can eat well and add a bit of colour to your kitchen on a budget.”
