LEGIONS of cyclists came out for the ‘final journey’ of Michael ‘Beest’ Beeston after he was killed following a collision in Crewe.

Michael Beeston, 44, from Shavington, died when his bicycle collided with a blue Vauxhall Astra, driven by a 28-year-old woman, along Nantwich Road in Crewe last month.

Following his death, hundreds have shared their heart-warming and often hilarious stories of Michael on a Facebook memorial page, which now has more than 870 members.

Ric Kenny, who set up the page, wanted to give his pal the best send-off imaginable, and got everyone together to take part in the cycle procession, which was attended by around a 100 cyclists.

He said: “I would like to thank all the people on bikes who made their own individual tribute to Beest and gave him one of the best send-offs Crewe has seen.

“Without them it wouldn't of been the same. Also thanks to Steve at Crewe Funeral Services in Shavington for all his hard work."

Ric, who has been friends with Michael since their schooldays, read a eulogy at his funeral, describing him as a ‘true gentleman’.

He said: “He would make funny memories for you every time you would be with him, day or night, with a beer in his hand or stone-cold sober.

“It didn't matter to him, he was the same no matter what, after all this is why we love him and thought the world of him.”

Following the funeral, well-wishers took to the memorial page to praise the ‘legend's' special send-off.

Ian Banks said: “Well what can I say? We did you proud aye Beeston, thanks to all you amazing people.

“It's the best send-off you will ever see in Crewe, truly amazing.”

Angela Cavendish, Michael’s cousin, said: “I wanted to say a huge thank you to all Michael's friends for giving him such a special send-off.

“We were all very touched to see so many people wanting to be part of his final journey.”

Jennifer Williams added: “I take my hat off to all of those who attended on bikes, you made Beeston's last journey simply perfect and definitely one to remember. You all did him proud.

“A truly fitting tribute to the legend that is Michael Beeston.”
