PUPILS from a Nantwich primary school made a poppy memorial to honour the lives of those lost during the World Wars.

Year 7 students from Brine Leas School spent an activity week at the Conway centre in Menai, Anglesey.

Before the visit they each researched the history of World War participants from their own families and then used the information to produce individual designed commemorative poppies.

Claire Somerville, who organised the activity, said: “2015 was another fantastic year at Menai. A great collection of poppies were produced.

“Well done to all. The students thoroughly enjoyed researching their ancestors and designing their bespoke poppy.”

On their return to Nantwich, these were planted in the front of the school to produce their very own 'poppy field', which visitors are welcome to view.

Beth Sealey, head of Year 7, praised the youngsters for their ‘immaculate’ behaviour.

She said: “I certainly felt a bit nervous taking away the biggest year group we’ve ever had to Menai, but I shouldn’t have been nervous at all. All of the year 7s were amazing.

“Throughout the whole week their behaviour was immaculate, their enthusiasm was limitless and their team work skills were second to none- they made all staff incredibly proud.

“It was such a privilege to be surrounded by such a fantastic bunch of students for the week and I hope they have made as many fantastic memories as I have.

“Once again, thank you so much year 7s for being such super stars! You should all be so proud of yourselves.”

Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day, is on Wednesday, November 11, but Remembrance Sunday is on November 8.

A two-minute silence will be held at the school at 11am on November 11 to mark the end of the First World War and remember those who have died in all our wars.
