TWELVE community projects in Crewe will receive a welcome cash boost following Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner Initiative.

Crewe Central residents voted for the 22 projects put forward by the community to improve the area and create opportunities for local people.

The twelve projects with the highest number of votes were announced at an event held last night at the Jubilee Centre by John Dwyer, Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

They will all receive a slice of the Commissioner’s £20,000 fund.

He said on the night: “I am so pleased that this community has brought forward some really good ideas which will benefit not only them but the wider community in Crewe.

“I am therefore, delighted to give them support in this tangible way.

“I am looking forwards to visiting the recipients of the funds, seeing the projects in action and hearing about the benefits they have realised.”

Among the winners are Growing Together for a Healthier Community, which will receive £2,000.

The project encourages people to grow produce together using vacant tubs and derelict spaces within Crewe Central and use teaches people about how to make basic nutritious meals.

All Change @ Crewe Central 2 will also receive £2,000 to develop a Crewe Central Market that will provide healthy food and affordable, quality clothing.

The project will use an empty shop or open air venue and will open once a month from November to April.
