LIVEWIRE students are giving a helping hand to the Sandbach Round Table group by fixing Santa’s sleigh for its annual Christmas collection.

Electrical Installation students at South Cheshire College are rewiring the trailer which will take to the streets of Sandbach in the run up to the festive period.

As well as providing new lighting cables, the group are also using their skills to improve the sleigh’s sound system to blast out Christmas carols and songs.

Sandbach Round Table is a voluntary social organisation which puts something back into Sandbach in the way of donations, time and hard work to improve the local community.

The group stages the Christmas collection every year to raise much needed funds for local projects.

Students are using their spare time to make the new wiring additions to the sleigh each week and are working around their studies in the College’s Electrical Installations workshop.

Electrical Installation Level 3 student Reece Morgan is one of the students who is working on the project.

Reece, 17, said: “This is something a bit different but when we found out about the project we were pleased to get involved and help out.

“Hopefully, the sleigh will really capture everyone’s attention when it hits the streets of Sandbach.

“It also gives us the chance to put some of the Electrical Installation skills we have learnt on the course into practice and help a local community group at the same time.”

Electrical Installations courses at South Cheshire College equip students with the skills and knowledge they need for full time careers as electricians or electrical engineers.

Nick Doyle, Electrical Installations Lecturer, said: “Sandbach Round Table approached us to see if we could help to rewire the sleigh and improve the quality of sound that it gives out.

“It is some time since the wiring for the sleigh was completed so this rewiring project was an opportunity that students have grasped with both hands.”
