CREWE and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson has unveiled a new kitchen at Shavington Youth Centre.

This year has seen a number of major improvements at the centre in Main Road, Shavington.

The Central Cheshire Buddy Scheme received £5,000 from Cheshire East Council for improvements to some of the pedestrian areas at the rear of the building, for an outdoor table tennis table and swings and climbing equipment on a safe surface at the other end of the outside area. These are all available to centre users.

A new kitchen has been built in the main club room, which provides a much larger, safer and more effective facility for providing food and drinks, but more importantly for the teaching of food production by the children and young people.

The kitchen was officially opened by Mr Timpson, the Minister of State for Children and Families, in the presence of children, staff, helpers and friends.

Cllr Steve Edgar said: “Our thanks go to Cheshire East Council for its community grant, to the Central Cheshire Buddy Scheme for its infusion of significant funds and to all those other kind donors of the necessary money to achieve these results.”

Mr Timpson said: “We also wish to thank everyone who has taken part in the preparation and dedicated hard work in the building of these projects which, when taken together, will make a much-improved and more exciting facility for the use of children and young people.”
