EMPLOYERS from across the region flocked to an action-packed careers fair to inspire the next generation of young people in Crewe.

The ‘Your Future Crewe Pledge’ event at South Cheshire College was attended by more than 50 businesses and was hailed as a huge success.

More than 800 students attended, aged 12 to 19, from Ruskin Community High School, King’s Grove School, Sir William Stanier High School, St Thomas More High School and South Cheshire College.

The event, in the college’s Sports Arena, was supported by the British Chamber of Commerce national programme of Your Future Careers Fairs.

Crewe Pledge aims to bring schools, colleges, businesses and organisations in Crewe closer together with one aim – to help young people make the transition from education into employment.

It will give young people studying in Crewe opportunities to develop employability related skills and personal qualities while they are still in education and the chance to progress into a job, training or further education when they complete their studies.

Trevor Langston, leading on the Crewe Pledge, said “It was great to see so many businesses and young people come together.

“The momentum of the Pledge is really growing, with more and more businesses keen to get involved."

Paul Colman, South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive opened the fair.

Paul said: “It was great to see such a fantastic commitment from the local business community to support young people.

“They clearly see the benefit of talent spotting their future employees. It was also a delight to see many young people showing such enthusiasm and getting the most out of the experience.”

Various breakout sessions were held during the day, including those on the benefits of Apprenticeships, led by South Cheshire College, Reaseheath College, and Total People.

Students also received help in registering on the Find and Apprenticeship website.
