THE candidates who have put themselves forward to replace the outgoing Cheshire East Council leader, Cllr Michael Jones, have been announced.
Cllr Jones announced that he had handed in his resignation as leader of the council in December and will remain as leader until his successor is voted in next month on Thursday, February 25.
Councillors will vote on who should take over as Cheshire East Council leader at the upcoming full council meeting.
The Cheshire East Conservative Group have now announced that two councillors will stand to be the next leader of the council.
The candidates who will stand have been confirmed to be Cllr Rachel Bailey and Cllr Janet Clowes.
Cllr David Brown was previously announced as a candidate but has stood down.
A spokesperson for the Cheshire East Conservative Group, said: “Cllr David Brown has withdrawn from the contest and will remain deputy leader in order to assure stability.”
