HAIR and beauty students in Crewe went head-to-head as they stepped on the red carpet for a glamorous competition.

Students studying a range of hair, beauty and make-up artistry courses at South Cheshire College showcased their skills at the spectacular event on Monday, January 18.

The competition, which was judged by industry professionals, challenged students to test their skills in a race against the clock and was staged in the college’s Centre Stage Theatre.

The Level Three hairdressing competition this year focused on a ‘movies’ theme and attracted some stunning entries.

Tracy Dony, hair and beauty technician at South Cheshire College and one of the event organisers, said: “The competition was a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills in front of potential employers and gave them experience of working under pressure.

“Every year the competition gets better and better and there were many more exceptional entries again this year.”

Hair student Charlotte Horne scooped first prize for her Alice in Wonderland ‘Queen of Hearts’ creation.

Level Two beauty therapy students showed off their skills in an evening make-up competition themed on ‘A night at the theatre’, which was won by stylist Alex Fowler Wilson.

In the ‘1980s’ themed make-up competition Georgia Gosling scooped first prize while in the body art ‘Las Vegas’ category Samantha Dean was crowned as the top stylist on the night.

Preparation for the competition took place throughout the day, with the finishing touches added in front of a public gallery before judges announced the winners.

Following the competition, 24 Beauty, make-up artistry and hairdressing students will now go forward to compete in the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHF) North West area finals at Winter Gardens in Blackpool on January 25.

In addition, ten hairdressing students will also advance to the National Hairdressers’ Federation (NHF) national finals in Blackpool on March 14.

Student Sandra Moreno, 27, finished runner up in the Hairdressing competition after impressing with her tribal queen hair style and will now go on to the North West final.

Sandra said: “Taking part in the competition was a fantastic experience and I’m thrilled to go through to the Blackpool event where I hope to do well against other stylists from across the region.”
