PUPILS from a Nantwich school was visited by experts from numerous fields to discuss their future careers.

Brine Leas School in Nantwich opened its doors on Tuesday, January 26 for its annual Careers Convention.

This was arranged to enable students from year 9 and above to research and question experts about the opportunities available for post 16 courses and employment.

This enhanced knowledge should assist them to make secure choices for their individual programmes of study in the Upper School.

Jo Morrison, who organised the event along with Isabel Cundy, said: “We are grateful to all the exhibitors for giving up their valuable time to advise our students.

“We were all impressed at the questions that were posed by each group (of students).

“Hearing the information and advice directly from both employers and apprentices will certainly support them when making important options choices and career decisions in the future.”

Brine Leas also celebrated the pupils’ A Level and GCSE achievements this week, following the Department for Education publishing the latest Performance Tables.

More than half of pupils (54 per cent) achieved A* to B at ‘A’ Level with a positive value added score.

At GCSE the figure almost three quarters (74 per cent) achieved A* to C grades.

Three levels of progress in English is 86 per cent and in Maths 76 per cent.

Based on the results, Brine Leas ranked 18th when compared against 54 similar schools throughout the country, which marks a jump of 17 places from last year.

Andrew Cliffe, Headteacher of Brine Leas School, said: “This achievement is against the context of a school that offers a well-rounded education, based upon a strong and thriving House system with an immense range of extra-curricular activities.

“Staff, students and their families combined in a really strong partnership to achieve these results.”
